SUMMARY

The story that’s been 50 years in the making and the off-road motocross community has been waiting for; BLACKWATER: 50 Years of GNCC Racing.

After seeing On Any Sunday film back in 1971, school-teacher and musician, Dave “Big Dave” Coombs convinced his family in Morgantown, WV to start promoting Off-Road racing events like Dave had seen in the film with the Elsinore Grand Prix that Malcolm Smith and Steve McQueen rode in and were featured in. One of those events was a 100-mile event in Davis, WV called the “Blackwater 100”, which was dubbed “America’s Toughest Race”. The birth (and infamy) of the Blackwater 100 would lead to the creation of a national series that is now known as the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series and now in 2025 GNCC Racing will celebrate its 50th anniversary season.

The film will follow the 2025 GNCC Racing season with both bikes and ATV storylines while reaching back into the memory banks of dozens of champions, journalists, mechanics, organizers and fans who will be interviewed for the film about major moments in GNCC’s 50 year history beginning with the Blackwater 100.

Past and current GNCC and Blackwater champions have been interviewed about racing the Blackwater 100 all the way up to the current 2024 season and outlooks for 2025. The stories are inspiring, funny, sad and dramatic, mixing perfectly with the new racing action coming in 2025.
