FILM MAKERS
God Speed You! Black Emperor (ゴッド・スピード・ユー! Black Emperor) is an independently produced debut documentary film by director Mitsuo Yanagimachi. Shot in black-and-white 16mm over two years and completed in 1976. Until then, Yanagimachi had been working as a production assistant at Toei Company [giants of the industry] and would move on as a filmmaker with a commitment to the causes of the disillusioned and disadvantaged.
The film’s sympathies lie with the fledgling members of Black Emperor’s Shinjuku branch, and sets its longest scenes in the claustrophobic interiors that house these youths: tiny apartments, overstuffed family restaurants, rehabilitative spaces for delinquents. In these brightly lit chambers, the young recruits sit still, heads bowed, scrutinized by their parents and peers… The film does not ask “why” the Bosozoku are the way they are— it simply takes the time to see what they see and hear what they hear. Facing an overwhelmingly sensationalized, essentialized phenomenon, this approach yielded remarkable results. – Read more at Sabukaru

A fascinating portrait of teen alienation and youthful rebellion in late 1970s urban Japan.
In the 1970’s Japan saw the rise of a motorcycling movement called the Bōsōzoku, which drew the interest of the media. The movie follows a member of the motorcycle club, and his interaction with his parents after he gets in trouble with the police.

Ahem …. read the history … Bosozoku as an entity has existed for as long as the Yakuza has … being both the drones /worker bees/ minions ( doing all the dirty work ) and a feeder program ( for ONLY the best of the very best ) for the Yakuza
The motorcycle aspect in fact came into play right after WWII … with Bosozoku grabbing onto the multitudes of cheap WWI! surplus motorcycles ( that ‘ polite ‘ Japan wanted nothing to do with ) … and later Japanese brand motorcycles as the Japanese motorcycle industry came into its own …
Suffice it to say … much like our media .. r.e. .. Hollister , B-Movie Biker films etc ) the Japanese media was both late to the party … exaggerating the truth and making use of Revisionist History … mainly because with so much Yakuza influence and control in Japan from politics to industry …. until the 70’s cartoon version of Bosozoku came about … Japanese media was afraid to bring any aspect of Yakuza/ Bosozoku into focus
And how do I know this you might ask …. well … suffice it to say without getting into any details which may or may not incriminate me ( in truth none of it would ) .. I may just have a Japanese friend or two who’s families are deeply entrenched in Yakuza … who’ve enjoyed sharing both the history and culture with their crazy American friend who may or may not on the Italian side of things … have extended family deeply entrenched in an Italian .. errr … ‘ group ‘
So seriously Corrina .. drop the pop culture BS … and entrench yourself into the genuine history of Bosozoku .. now available with the [ LoL] ‘weakening ‘ of the Yakuza *… who are more than willing to throw their Bosozoku minions under the bus to take attention away from themselves … hint hint
* Hmmm … weakening … what was that The Economist , WMF and World Bank said recently ? Oh yeah .. that more than a 3rd of the worlds economy is in the hands of Organized Crime .. with 90% of organized crime being controlled by …. oops … well … being part Italian .. you should know ( hint it aint the Sicilians nor the Naples bunch ) …
Eco .. Basta … Ciao
😎
FYI … if you’re not aware …. ‘ group ‘ is the Japanese slang/euphemism for organized crime/members of any kind
