Custom chopper motorcycles and bold tattoos share the same rebellious turf- they both turn heads, demand attention and attract people who challenge the status quo. Michelle Myles and her business partner Brad Fink opened Daredevil Tattoo with this same disruptive spirit in 1997, at its first location on Ludlow Street on the Lower East Side, immediately after New York City repealed its 36-year ban on the practice. At that time, the Lower East Side was a risky territory, with CBGB’s Punk and LES Hard Core set the musical soundtrack. Loud custom motorcycles from Steg’s Psycho Cycles[1] where Indian Larry and Paul Cox worked, cracked the evening air with a deep outlaw spirit that was the glue that held the neighborhood together.

Background and History
- New York Roots: Steg started building his iconic chopper, “Maxine,” in NYC around 1989, treating the build as his apprenticeship in custom motorcycle fabrication.
- Psycho Cycles: Steg took charge and operated Psycho Cycles, building a reputation for high-performance, raw, custom-built choppers and bobbers.
- The Bike “Maxine”: His legendary custom Shovelhead chopper (Maxine) features a modified Santee frame, one-off STD shovelhead cylinders, and runs on high-octane racing fuel, capable of hitting high speeds. (from Google). “The motor is an absolute beast and the bike can run 10:20s and 10:30s all day long at 135 miles an hour.” (Steg- from Facebook video).

Great article … great concept/shop/ life adventure .. some mighty fine ink …and yeah … NYC classic culture hangs on despite the plethora of gentrification across the city .
And damn … its getting ( bleeping ) hard to find a legitimate tattoo studio out here Mile High way . Most of em hipster wanna be joints who got their ‘ training ‘ via TikToc and YouTube rather than the years of apprenticeship it take to truly learn the craft .
Cause yeah …. got a design in mind ever since my run in with the Sausage Creature …. a Giacometti like figure with an acoustic guitar over his shoulder and cane in hand … with the words under it ;
” Oh Well ” …. from the Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac’s song of the same name .. e.g. ;
“I can’t help it with the shape I’m in … can’t sing .. aint pretty and my legs are thin …But don’t ask me what I think of you ..I might not give the answer that you want me to …. ”
” OH WELL …”
( y’all not havin met me in person gots no idea how absolutely ( bleeping ) apposite them lyrics really is )
😎
all the bikes lined up on the street like that reminds me of 3rd St. back when I were but a lad
