Harley-Davidson motorcycles have always been used for long-distance and round-the-world riding, and even off-road competition. But they had never offered an ADV (adventure) touring motorcycle, a category established in 1980 by the BMW GS series. Thus the 2021 Pan American represents a new direction for the company, being a wholly new design and unlike any of their previous models. The engine is a water-cooled V-twin with twin overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder in a unitary crankcase that produces a healthy 150hp. The chassis is equally advanced, with Adaptive Ride Height suspension, traction control, and multiple electronically controlled ride modes. Adventure touring is one of the most popular categories of motorcycling today, and Harley-Davidson has entered the scene with an impressive new model.
