So this pile of conspiracy fomenting dribble is still making the rounds … eh ?
Well … here’s the simple answer ;
What killed Alta … plain and simple … was the market place .
Oh sure … dig deeper and you’ll run into mismanagement .. poor engineering … pie in the sky thinking … pathetic quality control … almost zero demand for the product .. as well as abysmal customer service . Not to mention perhaps a little too much indulgence in Dr. Hoffman’s KickaPoo Joy Jouice .
All of which adds up to one answer and one answer only …
…. the Market Place as it exists in this AnarchoCapitalist economy we’re being consumed by
That … and the simple fact .. that like it or not
EV’s ARE NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME ! Especially M/C and Bicycle EVs
PERIOD !!!
So Alta conspiracy theorists … .. like the rest of your kind go crawl back under your tin foil hats …get off the net … and get a life .
The business practice is called ‘basket and dump’, and was apparently ‘innovated’ by Sony. When Sony wanted a piece of technology or IP from a small company, they would make an investment agreement, predicated on a thorough examination of the company’s finances and technology. They would provide earnest money but not a full investment, and string the small company along while it slowly drained its finances, while the big company took the IP it wanted, promising (even in press releases) that it was investing/buying the small company. Just before their bank account hit zero, Sony would back off, and the small company went bankrupt. Sony then bought the company for pennies on the dollar, or took what IP/tech they wanted at a bankruptcy sale.
I had a fascinating education on this from a Dutch investment banker looking into EV companies: they were paying for my expertise in the subject, but I learned plenty! Having watched what happened at Alta, all was explained to me as standard business practice in tech. Not a conspiracy, just a tactic.

1) Sony didn’t create B&D .. weren’t even close . Thats currently a ‘ product ‘ of Hedge Funds , Investment Bankers .. venture capitalists etc … created by …
THE MUSIC BUSINESS ! Way back when vinyl first came into vogue and there was real money to be made … but more importantly …. tax deductions to be created
So hell PdO … if anything Sony learned it from the music business after they bought Columbia .
The game originally was this …. put up the money for a band / project you were pretty damn sure would fail … use em as a tax deduction when they did .. and if they didn’t … take the money and run on to the next potential tax deduction ( FYI publishing is almost as bad … just ask Biberman the Younger )
And don’t kid yourself Paul … THAT is the same motive the majority of these financial ‘ pirates ‘ are using today . Buyout for pennies on the dollar only comes into play when there’s something remaining worth purchasing . Otherwise … its Tax Deduction heaven
So tell yer Dutch Banker to get a clue … and have himself a damn long talk with CH Bankers … Hedge Funds … venture capitalists and financial historians etc before trying to educate anyone … cause …. he’s full of it !
Sony indeed … like Sony ever’ invented’ much of anything ! ( and o they did NOT invent the CD or digital recording )
FYI; The Venture Capitalists are the ones you really need to watch out for !
2) Want a real education into the realties of modern finance Paul ?
Get yerself educated ASAP into the Silicon Valley / venture capitalist ” The MindSet ” … as in …. NOW ! As a start read ;

( the last two I read when new which is what set my radar in motion )
3) But back to the disaster that was Alta . Sure those nasty financial pirates played a ( small ) part … but ultimately ALL the blame falls on Alta itself .
a)They fell for the BS
b) They were/are deluded by a Pie in the Sky mentality
c) They din not take the time to look at the realties of the market place for EV’s and motorcycle sales in general ( creating a start up in a failing economy that offers nothing new is a venture for fools )
d) They were completely unprepared to succeed ( even if somehow they could of )
e.g. They were DOA before the first dollar was ever spent
FYI ; I also had a fascinating introduction into the world of the MindSet recently … direct from the source
( not a conspiracy … thats what THEY call it as they micro dose themselves into oblivion / Mars / the Moon / Island cities in the middle of the ocean / dreams of NZ etc )
Spend a little time with THOSE folks if you dare [ once was too much for me ] Calling them a surrealistic nightmare come true with too much money and too little ethics- common sense and maturity is an understatement
So my good man ( and I do believe / hope that you are ) Want to give those EV M/C companies some genuine reality based advice ?

After an extended conversation with the Swiss / Italian banker side of the family ( as in they own it ) I stand corrected
The reality is the strategy in question has been in force since at the very least the beginnings of capitalism … but more likely as far back as the rise of the middle class in England that was quashed in the end by the gentry using the very same strategy to put the middle class back in their place .
So I asked what the CH cousins advice would be for any up and coming EV manufacture .
Their united answer was a simple one ;
Taking the same tact they would with a would be vine to bottle wine maker … but with the expenditure increased exponentially taking into account the cost of designing , licensing and manufacturing an EV ( or any new road vehicle ) in this day and age
” If you want to make a million dollars with an EV of your own … spend ( at the very minimum ) half a billion dollars ”
“And make damn sure it is YOUR half a billion dollars+ .. and you are in a position to lose it with little consequence . At the very least though make damn sure if financing is needed that it comes from a reputable bank or financial institution ”
And in addendum they said ;
” If you find a venture capitalist lurking at your door feigning interest … sell for a reasonable price and run like hell .. making damn sure you deposit the check right then and there before handing over the contracts ” ( in other words do the deal at YOUR bank ) ”
So Paul … though I doubt you’ll take my words to heart …( I’ve got a long standing reputation as a ” Cassandra ” .. with 92% accuracy .. se la vie ) that is the only sane advice you can give to anyone seeking your counsel .
Cause its all an elaborate pyramid scheme at the moment … and the only place for anyone new .. is crushed underneath the bottom
