FILM MAKERS
Gary Goldstein of the Los Angeles Times said that “though there’s nothing terribly profound or unique about actor Jason Momoa’s feature writing-directing debut, ‘Road to Paloma’, it does prove an effective throwback to the loose-limbed, my-way-or-the-highway road movies of the Easy Rider era”. – Los Angeles Times
Motorcycle enthusiast Jason Momoa uses his celebrity to be an ambassador of the antique motorcycle community. In 2024 he produced the TV series ‘On The Roam’ that can be watched on MAX. In it, he travels across the country by motorcycle to meet “the extraordinary individuals blazing their own path – from craftsmen, to motorcycle fabricators, musicians to athletes”. This passion project is not the pinnacle of cinematic brilliance, but the two episodes in the first season dedicated to motorcycles are worth the watch for Vintagent readers. More on this next week!
SUMMARY
On the road. On the run.
Wolf, a Native American on the run after avenging his mother’s murder, flees across the desolate American West on his motorcycle, where he’ll discover that justice has a cost.
After murdering his mother’s rapist, (who died from her injuries) Wolf, a Native American, flees from the law. Six months later he meets up with a drifter called Cash and heads north to his sister’s property where he intends to go spread his mother’s ashes, but with the law right behind him his dream to lay his mother to peace may come at a price.
On their way up north to spread his mother’s ashes, Wolf and Cash are approached by a little boy covered in blood begging for help. They race into the desert brush to find a young woman being raped by a white male. Robert Wolf murders the man and he and Cash run to a nearby police station on foot carrying woman and child. The police officer stops them from running away and is about to call in that the two suspects are being arrested.

Hmmm …. like the bikes … its before Mom became so completely full of himself ( and $h!t ) …. music seems pretty damn appropriate …. scenery … I mean … the American SW … kinda hard to go wrong with that … have enjoyed Lisa Bonnet’s acting …. so …hmmm ..
Might just have ta give this one a go .. assuming I can access it .
As far as Momoa’s ” On the Roam ” series though … seriously … give it a pass and a wide berth … its self indulgent crap at its very worst … as an example … the moment you get into say a particular builder or bike … it once again reverts to ALL ABOUT Mamoa … and as stated above .. he’s now so full of it you could fertilize the entire mid west with what emits from his narcissistic self absorbed self
Summing the entire series up in a nutshell ..
Vapid Inane Uninformative Misinformed self indulgent effluence not worthy of the digital space and electricity it wasted
😎
Sooo ..rented it on Comcast / Xfinity today …all of $3.95 ( free if you have STARZ )
Here’s my take ;
Surprisingly decent . Now don’t get me wrong .. this is not brilliant film making .. nor is it cinematic art … but .. its decent … better than expected .. and probably better than most M/C oriented films .
The cinematography is excellent … the music as expected .. damn fine .. verging on some of the best and appropriate music I’ve ever heard in an M/C film …. the bikes … even the Yamaha bobber wanna be rice burner .. damn fine .
The script ? Though riddled with inaccuracies … its … palatable … the acting … though at times a bit thin on the ground .. more than acceptable .
So .. was it worth the $3.95 and the 1:31 of my time it took to watch it ?
Yup … well worth it if only for the scenery .. but honestly .. the scenery isn’t the only reason to watch it
Fact is .. in light of the fact the rental goes for 48 hours .. I may have to watch it again !
BTW ; The one thing the film portrayed very accurately is the injustice aimed at Native Americans … or as Bob Dylan says …
…..the only REAL Americans in the US .
And that’s the GS film review for today
Two thumbs up Corrina ! Keep more like this coming
Now pardon me … Life is so Bright .. I gotta wear shades
😎
