Chelsea Bridge Boys is a 30-minute documentary directed by Peter Davis for Swedish Television. It offers a candid, slice-of-life look into the mid-1960s London subculture of Rockers, working-class youth gangs known for their love of rock ‘n’ roll and custom motorcycles, who meet at a tea-kiosk on Chelsea Bridge.
During a career spanning over 50 years, Peter Davis produced and directed more than 70 films on social and political issues, and worked on many others. His documentaries have been shown worldwide, and gained many awards. Much of his work has been on apartheid South Africa. SUMMARY
The Chelsea Bridge Boys were a London Rocker gang. Centered around a popular tea kiosk near the Chelsea Bridge, they were known for their studded leather jackets, rebellious attitude, and love of 1950s rock and roll. The film Chelsea Bridge Boys offered an authentic, cool look at the youths who made transport cafes and the bridge their starting and finishing points for street races and cruising, where the rockers would frequently attempt to “do the ton”.
