‘The Piston King’ is a short documentary by Palestinian director Mazen Alhaj Salem. ‘MOTO Rauch & Staub‘ is one of Dubai’s most authentic motorcycle cafes run by the inimitable, Marco Möller, who shares his philosophy on life in the film. Sadly Marco has since moved back to his native Germany and MOTO (in Dubai) is no more.
SUMMARY
In The Piston King, we step inside Marco’s world on a fateful night, not on the streets, but in the heart of his workshop. Surrounded by tools, grease, and memories, Marco’s hands bring life to machines that are more than just bikes—they’re a part of his soul. As he works late into the night, we follow the man behind the passion, where every wrench turn tells a story.

And will ya look at that ! ( the director ) the majority of Palestinians are REAL people interested in the same things the rest of us are !
Oh man .. this film despite its brevity is so deep and filled with important relevant insights I’m not sure the majority who watch it will ever get most of it ..

PS – My guess is the reason for Moller’s sudden rapid exit from Dubai was him getting priced and pushed out by the multibillionaire factions trying to make Dubai as antiseptic and homogenized as possible … e.g. .. original thinkers not welcome
PS; Having seen what little of Marco’s builds the film showed … I’d love to see more of his work … and damn … I jes loves that former shop of his …. a little dirty .. a little greasy … but damn well organized … and set up for work …. not show

Fantastic film. Awe inspiring and zen like. Let’s hope where ever Marco is he is out there living free and enjoying the freedom he sought.
Oh.Its about an engraver.We thought it was about a guy that made his own pistons.You know,as in the title?The Piston King?
Oh … golly gee Splinky (s) … pay attention … its about a custom bike builder who at his own cost includes some incredible engraving into his builds .
” Piston King ” is simply the nickname he’s been given .
Sigh … paying attention … a lost skill in the age of digital enshitification if there ever was one !
But .. hey … thanks for proving my assumption correct … you(all? ) don’t get it … at all … oh well …. two outta three ( posts that do GET IT ) aint half bad

To be fair … some may not be familiar with the word I keep using .. ‘ enshitification ‘
So here’s the lowdown …. according to the likes of author lecturers Ed Zitron and Corey Doctorow etc etc … its not that the web and digital domain in general in and of itself is bad … its that it has been made bad by those currently running the show … placing addiction … excessive profits .. turning users into commodities .. and more importantly … control as the main focus of said net and digital domain .
In fact … it all used to be usable beneficial and good …. until they got greedy… seeing … god knows what at the end of the tunnel … enshitifying everything good … turning it all to … well … $h!t … hence the term
Have any doubts ? Ten years ago if you Googled say …. blues guitar players .. you got pages and pages of relevant searches and resources to search further .. an ad or two here and there … but mostly relevant searches
Wheres today ? … hah … you ‘ll have to scroll thur ten pages of irrelevant ads , political and religious crap just to get to anything pertinent to your original search
YouTube ? Just two years ago if I searched for … say … the Jazz group … Snarky Puppy … I’d get reams of Snarky Puppy videos … interviews etc … and a host of relevant other jazz groups worth taking a look at as well
Whereas today ? For every one Snarky Puppy relevant recommend ….. ten absolute $h!t that has nothing to do with Snarky Puppy … Jazz .. or music … case in point … yesterdays search bringing up Christian propaganda … far right conspiracy theories … and ads galore for crap no one in his or her right mind would so much as open … never mind purchase
So now you’ve been informed … Enshitification …. the reality of what the net has become … because we ( OK … all you snowflakes GenY GenZ GenXers ) let it !
Lecture over …. gourmet donuts ( via Portlandia Oregon ) , croissants and single source ( from CANADA damn it ) coffee in the break room
