Those who attended the first Brooklyn Invitational Custom Motorcycle Show in September 2009 and the following September shows until 2018, witnessed motorcycle history. In late 2008 early 2009, John Copeland. Keino Sasaki (Keino Cycles) and Jeffrey Schad brainstormed the idea to contact a dozen or so Tri-State motorcycle builder friends[1] and organize a one day only custom motorcycle show. The rough, dark and somewhat menacing post-industrial East Williamsburg skateboard venue, Autumn Bowl was the perfect spot to pull it off. They reached out to friends Paul Cox, AJ Herold, Andy Camay, tattooer Diego Mannino and others for help. Evening meetings were held at the Johnson Avenue, Williamsburg, Brooklyn garage, where Copeland and Schad wrenched on their bikes to discuss what would be involved── they agreed, the event should be a small, somewhat private, invitational motorcycle show as a free of charge, gallery type setting. They all knew this had not really been done before on the East Coast.

Yup … just goes to show we East Coasters does things different from them LaLa Land boys
And yeah .. it figures one of the ONLY NO BS custom bike shows … in the world … would meet its end .
Cause these days .. if it aint riddled from end to end with spectacle , hipster wanna be’s , celebrity and bull**** by the ton … not to mention a boatload of corporate killjoys ( sponsors ) .. it don’t stand a bats chance in Hades of surviving . which is why I finally stopped attending M/C shows of any kind .
Hell … if I wanted the kind of atmosphere todays bike shows have on offer .. I’d just attend a Taylor S*** ( Swift ) concert and be done with it ..
[ suffice it to say hell would freeze over 10,000 times before I’d even consider darkening the doorstep pf a Swifty concert with my presence ]
So … yup . remember .. cause thats all we can do .. remember
So .. molto grazie for the article … the photos [ especially the photos ] .. and the memories …
Caio 😎
Damn … whether like this article I’m in complete agreement .. or others of contention …. every damn time I read one of McCabe’s articles I go all nostalgic for NYC and the East Coast in general … to the point of being just a bit .. homesick …
.. Not for the blatantly over gentrified nannified NYC / East Coast of the present mind you .. but rather the much more dangerous … albeit a helluva lot more creative , affordable and fun NYC/EC … of the 70’s ( and earlier )
Back when simply waking up in the morning was considered a pretty major accomplishment .
Sigh …. waxing nostalgic … oh well .. at least they can’t take that away from us
He rode THAT all the way from california?
Does he still have an ass?
We all rode hardtails across the entire continent , Canada and Mexico . Initially cause thats all that was on offer here in the US ( as well as much of the world ) .. and later ….. once again once the Chopper / Bobber craze came into being .. cause it’s … err .. considered to be the thing to do . But hell … it worked in the past … and its livable for the present … albeit looking back thru the eyes of age and wisdom .. perhaps not very smart .
And yeah we all still have very nice posteriors thank you very much … including the lady riders … the real question is .. do you ….well … you know !
