In the south of France, the tale of a gypsy family who’s job is to ride the Wall of death. A truly unforgettable journey.
The documentary directed by Didier Canaux, originally broadcast on France 2’s 25 nuances de doc series, follows Kristofe Werdyn and his traveling mechanical circus troupe in the southwest of France. The film explores the lives of modern-day “punks” and free spirits who operate the cylindrical wooden motodrome. Known as the Mur de la mort in France, this classic fairground attraction sees motorcyclists defy gravity by riding horizontally along a vertical wall, performing feats that require immense courage and perfect balance.
Though the film aired on French TV in 2023, it is not currently available to rent or buy. The Vintagent is currently in talks with the film’s distributor to try to bring this film to our readers. Stay tuned!

Somewhere in the South of France, Kristofe, their leader, gets them ready for a truly unforgettable journey that will push the limits of fear and bravery.

Whoa ! .. if the trailer is anything to go by … perhaps the best contemporary ‘ wall of death ‘ film on offer ?
Interesting to see that much like on this side of the pond …. WoD is a family affair
And the music ? Though no fan of hard core thrash metal myself … it sure as hell fits … in fact its kind of amazing no one else is doing that … Thrash Metal + Wall Of Death = A combo made in the depths of hell … which in this case … is a good thing
So yeah … here’s hoping y’all can get the full film … cause you can bet if ya do .. I’ll be watching …

BTW … I would not in any way shape or form .. having done my time in and around punk from the very beginning ( a lil sumpin Marc Ribot and I have in common ) … from …its roots in the Sex Pistils etc .. to NYC Intellectual Punk ( my favorite ) to the likes of Black Flag ( one of their more prominent members was a student of mine ) etc ….
……. categorize this crew as ‘ Punk ‘ . nope … though somewhat related …. from their dress … to their bikes … to their overall aesthetic and attitudes …. this aint punk baby … this is a Euro hard core thrash metal bunch … and more power to em !

Jean Shepherd in one of his Playboy stories said that as a kid he saw one of those at a county fair and that 2 riders switched bikes in mid air.Right.One rider jumped off his bike and onto the bike opposite it at the same time that the other rider jumped off his and did the same.Uh-huh.That Jean Shepherd sure could lay down a load Blarney sometimes.

And I thought those risers we were placed on for that Broadway show was risky …. hell …. these guys make that look like a walk in the park … despite the fact that mine collapsed right in the middle of a performance !
