SUMMARY
Follow the heartwarming yet tragic love story of Red Molly and James. An experimental animated film about love, motorbikes, and a redheaded girl.
Whilst deferring to Richard Thompson’s “finger in the ear” British folk song original I have a soft spot for the bluegrass version by the Del McCorey Band in which, (naturally), Box Hill becomes Knoxville
Both versions are great .. each for different reasons . And though I prefer RT’s versions ( his acoustic duet recordings with Danny Thompson are the best ) I’m always up for another round of McCorey’s brilliant adaptation . Just goes to show .. a great song bent in any number of directions by supremely talented individuals like McCorey remains a great song .
Sean Rowe does a magnificent version of this fine song.
Listen to Richard Thompson’s ‘Wall of Death’ also
a classic. another brilliant one about the wall of death is Mark Knopfler & EmmyLou Harris’ duet “All The Road Running” from the album with the same name. Be sure to listen to the whole album (which was written while Knopfler was recovering from a bad motorcycle accident) as there are a few motorcycle references. Red Staggerwing has become a favorite of mine.
Minnesota’s Bob Dylan’s one appearance of ‘1952 is very special as well as being mysterious.
