SUMMARY
The Black Falcon is the most revered custom motorcycle in recent history. Designed by Ian Barry and built with his crew at Falcon Motorcycles in Los Angeles, the Black Falcon is more than a motorcycle; it’s a collection of ideas filling a motorcycle’s 3 dimensional space, challenging our definitions of both ‘art’ and ‘motorcycle’. It is simply magnificent.
What’s never been seen, though, is the remarkable functionality designed into the Black. It can be converted from full-race to touring mode without any tools, via Ian Barry’s ingenious designs for adjusting the handlebars, footrests, fuel tanks, seat, forks, and rear subframe.
This film corrects what has not previously been visible; all the hand-made, Ian Barry-designed tricks built in.
Such a stunning bike….wonderful to see the beautifully engineered adjustments on the bike. …it really is perfection! . Lovely film, and as you say, no narrative required! . Steve

A simply breathtaking presentation of a simply breathtaking motorcycle… thank you for sharing it.
Some engineers have got too much time on their hands … thankfully.
Yes the Black Falcon is aesthetically stunning * , impeccably crafted as well as having some interesting added features taking the classic Vincent adjustability to new heights placing the Black Falcon solidly ( along with Jeff Decker and Simon Mills bikes in my opinion ) in the top three of contemporary Vincent customs .
But the question still remains ; Has the Black Falcon finally been ridden .. or is it destined to forever remain a ‘ museum ‘ piece ?
* Got the high quality poster beautifully framed and hanging in my studio and still wearing the BF T-Shirt on my back .
Guitar Slinger : That was never a question. Also the implication of “finally” is also not only misleading, but incorrect.
These bikes are incredible; I checked you guys out the second the video was over. As a welder I appreciate the detailed work and overall artistic value that was placed into these roaring beauties. No only would I love to own one, I love to work for such a place. WIll you guys be at the Sturgis Rally showing these off?
Beautiful. They are searching for emotions in robots… have a look at this, pure emotion in motorcycles. Human touch to materials, constructions, playfulness depending on your mood, fluctuating between past and future, do I want to ride or caress my petroleum horse… Sensorial interaction to all detail, how to sit, to steer, to brake…. to relax,… to enjoy…. purist pleasure. Falcon you did it again… thanks.
Hardware reminds me of 1930’s medical equipment. It’s one thing to build a bike that looks good, a whole other ballgame to make it functional. This build goes a level beyond to convertibility by hand. Fantastic! And the video portrays the machine perfectly.
