Long Way Round is a documentary documenting the 19,000-mile (31,000 km) journey. McGregor and Charley Boorman embark on a grueling quest to motorbike from London to New York. Going east through Europe, Asia and then to Alaska, they experience different cultures and have to overcome the elements and adversity.
SUMMARY
From 14 April 2004 to 29 July 2004, McGregor, Boorman, motorcycle riding cameraman Claudio von Planta and their support crew traveled from London to New York, via Western and Central Europe, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Siberia and Canada, for a cumulative distance of 18,887 miles (30,396 km). The only sections of the trip not undertaken by motorcycle were 580 miles (930 km) by train in Siberia, which circumvented the Zilov Gap; a short impassable section towards the end of their Russian journey, which was undertaken by truck; and a 2,505-mile (4,031 km) flight from Magadan in eastern Russia to Anchorage, Alaska.
Upon encountering numerous swollen rivers and a serious lack of functioning bridges while traveling along the Road of Bones to Magadan, the riders got their BMW motorbikes through some fairly deep rivers. However, the summer run-off from the Siberian winter was in full flow and after a valiant effort, the bikes eventually had to be loaded into the trucks of passing drivers and ferried across a few of the deepest rivers.
The journey visited twelve countries, starting in the UK, then passing through France, Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, USA and Canada, ending in New York. The team mainly stayed in hotels while traveling in Europe, North America and populated parts of Russia but frequently had no option but to camp after reaching Kazakhstan and Mongolia. They took time to visit a variety of sights and landmarks while traveling, including the Church of Bones in the Czech Republic, the Mask of Sorrow monument in Magadan, Russia and Mount Rushmore in the USA. They ultimately arrived in New York on schedule and rode into the city accompanied by a phalanx of bikers, including McGregor's father Jim and the Orange County Choppers crew.

It went on to win the Golden Puffin Award at the 2022 Reykjavík International Film Festival. At the Seville European Film Festival, the film won the Cinephiles of the Future award and Ledru was co-winner with Zar Amir Ebrahimi of the award for Best Actress. The film won the Audience Award for the Altered States program at the 2022 Vancouver International Film Festival.
SUMMARY
Julia, a young woman living in social housing who has a poor relationship with her mother; passionate about the sport of motocross, she tries to gain the opportunity to participate in the sport by posing as a buyer on shopping websites so that she can take bikes out for test rides. As she becomes drawn deeper into the urban motocross scene, however, she begins to participate in a motorcycle theft ring.
Note: Most of the actors are non-professional, including of the main character, Julia, played by Julie Ledru. Writer/director Lola Quivoron has been immersed in the urban rodeo world for a while and had realized that all riders were men. She had been looking for some time for her lead, and stumbled onto the Inconnue_du_95 account on Instagram. When she met her, she realized that her life was very much like her character's, so much that some details of her life ended up in the movie.

The film also features singer Wayne Cochran and his band The C.C. Riders. At the time, reviews were mostly negative. It was described by The New York Times reviewer Vincent Canby as "the picture to name when someone asks you to recommend 'a good bad movie.'"
SUMMARY
C.C. Ryder falls in with a biker gang in the desert, and then rescues Ann from trouble with the same gang. There next occurs a motocross race tied in with a fashion shoot. The Heads disrupt the event, but C.C. Ryder enters the race to gain Ann's favor. This puts him in conflict with Moon. When Ryder wins the race and leaves with his award money the gang kidnaps Ann, and Ryder must ride back to save her.

Jeff’s journey as a director began in childhood creating no budget adventure films with neighborhood friends on his parents’ VHS camcorder. He attended Temple University’s Film and Media Arts program in Philadelphia and directed his first short, Mother Divine, at the age of 23. The film was shot at one of the city’s most enigmatic and iconic landmarks, and was scored by esteemed Israeli composer Ady Cohen. After graduating in 2003, Jeff relocated to NYC where he worked as an assistant for photographer/director Steven Klein and later developed a notable career of his own as an international fashion and portrait photographer. The Passenger represents a return to his primary passion for narrative storytelling that also integrates a refined and visceral style honed over years behind the camera.
SUMMARY
To say anything of 2020 would inevitably sound like an understatement.
In the midst of a worldwide shutdown with no end in sight, my longtime best friend Gentry Dayton and I, along with producer Brian Awitan, sought to make the most of this unprecedented pause, at a time when grief hung heavy in the ether. What began as a pandemic project rapidly expanded into a universal meditation on loss, despair, and transformation.
While many stories rooted in motorcycle culture have predictably tired macho themes, this film is a psycho-spiritual walkabout with a tour through haunted terrain into a cocoon leading to an unexpected rebirth. The Passenger invokes the foreign art house films of the 70s, while simultaneously celebrating the classic Americana of Easy Rider that highlights the raw, fragile texture of mental health with a marked gritty spirituality, where the essence of friendship is defined and nature is personified as both a merciless and healing force.
The film also features an original score by legendary underground artist Jarboe and her creative partner Kris Force, whose previous work on 'The Path' garnered a "Best Composition" Award at the Bilbao International Game Awards. Thor Harris, a member of Swans, also contributed his eminent talents to the soundtrack and, curiously, I have a Swans tattoo on my left arm - which makes for a truly synchronistic moment in time.

In 2017 adventure rider Lyndon Poskitt attempted to to be the first rider since the seventies to ride to the start line of the Dakar Rally, compete in the toughest unsupported Malle Moto class, and not only finish but try to win. This feature documentary was a collaboration between myself, Lyndon and Adventure Spec. With only shot material to work with it the challenge of constructing the film was something of an endurance feat in itself.
SUMMARY
They say you only really grow at the very edge of your comfort zone. For the last three years Lyndon Poskitt has been stretching that comfort zone one kilometre at a time. From the safety of corporate existence to the freedom of a motorcycle and the open road to the biggest challenge of his life as he rides 150,000km to take part in the hardest class of the most brutal motor race in the world. In 2014 Lyndon Poskitt set off from the UK with a simple goal, to ride round the world on his motorcycle and race rallies in every continent he visits. A voyage of discovery? Or escape? As his time on the road grew, along with his hair and confidence, it dawned on Lyndon that as the world has become smaller the idea of adventure has lost it’s way. Inspired by the early pioneers of exploration and speed, he entered the infamous Dakar Rally, now hosted in South America. Lyndon looked to the pre-commercialised origins of the race where competitors set off with very little assistance or hope of reaching the finish line. To this day, even though the Dakar Rally has outgrown it’s humble origins, it still retains the Malle Moto class for those who seek a pure test of spirit and endurance. One man. One bike. One box of tools. 12 days and 10,000 kilometers of hard racing. In 2017, as the only competitor to ride to the start line, Lyndon was to discover the limit of his already stretched comfort zone. Wide of the Mark was a test to see if these hand-built road bikes could survive a lap around Tasmania, the only hope was that these machines would stay in one piece. Since most things broke or went missing it was adapted that the mission was these machines finished as a functional (rideable) motorcycle even if the headlight was absent, brakes gone, the number plate bent so bad you would struggle to read it, and well the list goes on.
SUMMARY
Wide of the Mark follows six riders with a hunger for motorcycle adventure in its purest form. Hand building their road bikes to tackle Tasmania's rugged off-road terrain.
Usually, a motorcycle adventure starts on the ride, but for these six Aussie riders it started in the garage. Tasked with transforming their road bikes into the ultimate off-road machine. The only guide - a rough road map of the most testing terrain Tasmania had to offer. Wide of the Mark is new ground in motorcycle adventure films. Riding High is first and foremost a comedy with most of the laughs coming from Irene Handl as Gran and Murray Salem as the classic cliche of a high-powered American promoter.
The superb soundtrack features dozens of hits by artists including The Police, Madness, The Pretenders, The Boomtown Rats, Squeeze, Joe Jackson, Chic, Dire Straits, The Shadows, Jerry Lee Lewis, Gary Numan and Emerson Lake and Palmer.
In real life, stuntman star Eddie Kidd was the first to clear 190 feet – over fourteen double-decker buses – and retain control of the bike. He was paralyzed and suffered brain damage following an accident in 1996.
SUMMARY
London-born motorcycle stunt rider Eddie Kidd stars as Dave Munday, a motorcycle messenger who lives with his eccentric, tough and extremely with-it grandma (Irene Handl) in a small seaside town. Dave is bored with his job but sticks with it because of the opportunities it gives him to fantasize with his bike as a stunt rider.
One day, Dave sees a giant poster challenging all comers to beat American champion stunt rider Judas S. Chariot (Bill Mitchell) to jump the Devil’s Leap – a disused railway viaduct across the Blackwater River in Essex – and win a gold plated dream machine. Dave rallies his friends around him at a local gig and the challenge is accepted.
Marvin Ravensdorf (Murray Salem) is the flamboyant promoter of the big biking show and gives a dazzling party at a leading hotel, at which Dave makes a spectacular entrance and busts the party wide open.
Only three riders ultimately qualify for the death leap, after a truly hair-raising and hilarious elimination contest held in a huge stadium. Judas, overweight, over-aged and over-the-top, has an exotic girlfriend called Zoro (Marella Oppenheim) whose romantic thoughts begin to turn away from Judas and towards Dave.
Dave and Judas meet at Devil’s Leap – neither having previously seen it – and are appalled at the yawning chasm confronting them. They both want to quit but the relentless Ravensdorf will have none of it. He has them trapped in water-tight contracts and they are compelled to go through with it. - Nostalgia Central

Curator Paul d'Orléans explains the importance of Samuel's inventions.

STONE (1974)

This low budget independent “Ozploitation Bikie Flick” (Australian biker film) wasn’t much at the time. Made a bit too late, and on the wrong side of the planet to join the American outlaw biker obsession, not to mention being slammed by the critics, it wasn’t until a few years later (1979) when a little movie called Mad Max came out and Stone was rediscovered. Now critically acclaimed, though rarely seen. It is considered the “Bikie Bible” and an Australian 70’s classic.
Directed by Sandy Harbutt, Stone tells the tale of The Grave Diggers. An outlaw, Satanist bikie gang of renegades riding Kawasaki 900s, including the legendary Kawasaki Z1 (900), that are being picked off one by one in elaborate ways by a mysterious killer.
SUMMARY
The opening scene shows the gang hitting up a demonstration to save the environment. Toad (Hugh Keays-Byrne, aka ‘Toecutter’ from ‘Mad Max’) wanders around the crowd tripping on acid, when a sniper starts shooting, killing gang member “Go Down”.
Riding 400 deep, all the local gangs gather for a fantastic bikie funeral procession (extras for this scene included members of the Sydney Hell’s Angels) for Go Down. Arriving at the cemetery, Undertaker, the gang’s leader gives the service and Go Down is buried standing up so he “won’t have to take any shit from the Evil One”. The Grave Diggers refuse to talk to the cops who question them to help find Go Down’s killer. Telling them to piss off, they head for the bar.
Stone (Ken Shorter), a straight shooting but hip, motorcycle riding cop rolls up to the bar later that night on a Norton and after some fuss, convinces the Grave Diggers to let him ride with them undercover to find out who the killer is. Leaving his posh girl behind, Stone heads off down the coast to the secret, seaside fortress where the gang is hiding out. The lair is a den of iniquity. Sex, drugs, pinball, even a guy sleeping in a coffin by a beer fridge… But, after drag racing Stinky, Stone is quickly accepted and is inducted in the Grave Digger ritual of donning a filthy club jacket and having his ear pierced by Toad with a syringe, so that he can wear the symbolic skeleton earring.
Asking around to find leads on who would want the gang dead, and thinking it will be a long list, Stone is surprised to find that the gang’s only enemy seems to be not the rival gang The Black Hawks, but instead, the local heavies who have the whole area mobbed up and have been trying to set the Grave Diggers up to keep them off their backs. Trying to incite a gang war, the heavies leave Go Down’s helmet for the gang at a local bar “complements of the Black Hawks”. Enraged that Go Down has been dug up, they tear off to the cemetery…and walk right into an ambush.
Shots ring out. The Undertaker is killed. Toad is shot and realizes that he knew who the killer was all along but had been on so much acid that he thought he had been hallucinating. A bloody battle ensues and the killer is caught by the gang, but Stone, still the civil servant, holds the gang off at gunpoint. Refusing to let them take care of business their way, he takes the killer in.
“They got something going for them…A sort of a sense of honor…That I’d like. They just up and do the sort of things that a lot of other people would like to be able to do….Yeah, I like the ol’ Grave Diggers…I’d be glad to see them anytime.”
Back at home. Enter the grave Diggers. Stone goes to shake hands but they lunge, beat him to a bloody pulp, take back his vest, tear out the skeleton earring and leave him for dead in his girlfriends arms. Hysterical, she tries to call the cops but Stone whispers through the blood and missing teeth... “no cops, no cops”. Fade to black. Cut to bikies riding into the sunrise. Cue music. Roll the credits. - Cina Meccanica

Vicente started shooting short films in Super-8 when he was 12, and shot his first feature in 1999.
Screen International and Filmmaker Magazine listed Vicente Amorim as one of the most important independent directors in the world. Vicente Amorim’s films have been in the official selection of some of the most important festivals in the world, including Toronto, New Directors/New Films (MoMA), Rotterdam, Karlovy Vary, Rome, Montreal, Rio and San Sebastian. His films total 22 nominations at the Brazilian Academy Awards. Some of the awards won by his films include “best film” at San Diego; “best actor” at Mar del Plata; “best foreign film” at Hima Kizuma and “best director” at Gramado. His movies have been commercially released worldwide.
Amorim directed the thriller Motorrad; the Brazil-Japan co-production Dirty Hearts, with Tuyoshi Ihara; Good, with Viggo Mortensen; Sister Dulce, with Bianca Comparato; The Middle of the World, with Wagner Moura; the doc Too Much Brazil, which was awarded the UNESCO seal; and Rio, I Love You, directed alongside Paolo Sorrentino, Fernando Meirelles, John Torturro and 7 other of the world's top directors.
SUMMARY
In rural Brazil, young Hugo wants to be a part of his older brother’s dirt bike pack. He tells them about a girl he met who knows of a remote, beautiful trail. On that trail, fun and games become fear and dissent and, then, death.

Long before he made 2005 movie The World's Fastest Indian, director Roger Donaldson was fascinated by veteran motorbike racer Burt Munro. Donaldson spent more than two years making this Survey documentary, observing Munro working in his Invercargill shed and following him to Bonneville Flats, Utah, where the 68-year-old attempts to hold the speed record he set on his 1920 Indian Scout bike. Munro worked tirelessly on his bike using basic equipment and ingenuity to solve problems. Donaldson interviews friends, family and biking buddies, who comment on Munro's vitality and his lifelong obsession.

The story of New Zealander Burt Munro, who spent years rebuilding a 1920 Indian motorcycle, which helped him set the land speed world record at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats in 1967.
Director Roger Donaldson had been working on this film for over 20 years before he started filming it, and had previously directed a short television documentary about Munro called Burt Munro: Offerings to the God of Speed in 1971. Arranging the financing for a full feature film was much more difficult, but a key Japanese investor, and Donaldson and Hannam's own money allowed the film to be made. Many of the props used for filming were actually owned by Munro, including all the exploded pistons and the piston mould that Hopkins uses for a scene in the film. These were on display at the Southland Museum and Art Gallery.
SUMMARY
In 1967, Burt Munro is a sort of folk hero in Invercargill, known for his friendly easy-going personality, for having the fastest motorcycle in New Zealand and Australia, and for being featured in Popular Mechanics magazine. However, that recognition is contrasted by his exasperated next-door neighbors, some of whom are fed up with his un-neighborly habit, such as revving his motorcycle early in the morning, urinating on his lemon tree, and not mowing his grass. Burt, however, has a long-time dream: to travel to the US and test his motorcycle's capabilities at the Bonneville Speedway. However, while modifying his motorcycle, Burt suffers a heart attack. An ambulance takes him to the hospital and he is told he has angina, and is advised to take it easy and not to ride his motorcycle. Burt ignores this advice, and is given medication.
Burt is finally able to save enough to travel by cargo ship to Los Angeles, working his passage as the cook, but when he arrives, he experiences bureaucracy, skepticism, and the indifference of big city people. It is his blunt but gregarious nature which overcomes each hurdle. He wins over the motel clerk, a transvestite named Tina, who assists him in clearing customs and helps him in buying a car. The car salesman allows Burt to use his workshop and junkyard to build a trailer, and later offers him a job after Burt fine-tunes a number of the cars on the lot. Burt declines the offer, however, and shortly afterwards begins his long trip to Utah.
Along the way, Burt meets numerous helpful people, including highway police, a Native American who aids him when his trailer fails, a woman named Ada who allows him to repair his trailer in her garage and briefly becomes his lover, and an Air Force pilot who is on leave from military service in Vietnam.
He finally arrives at the Bonneville Salt Flats, only to be blocked by race officials for not registering his motorcycle for competition in advance, and not having the mandated safety equipment. In a show of sportsmanship, however, various competitors and fans in the Bonneville series intervene on his behalf, and he is eventually allowed to make a timed run. Despite various problems, he succeeds in his quest and sets a new land speed record at the 8th mile of his run; when he reaches 201.851 mph (324.847 km/h). By the end, his leg is burned by the exhaust, and he then falls with the motorcycle and skids to a stop, but he is able to return home to New Zealand as a hero. An epilogue describes that he went to Bonneville again several times to compete and set new records.

Electra Glide in Blue is a 1973 American action film, starring Robert Blake as a motorcycle cop in Arizona and Billy "Green" Bush as his partner. The film was produced and directed by James William Guercio, and is named after the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle issued to traffic cops. The soundtrack was performed by members of the band Chicago; Guercio managed them at the time, and produced many of their albums. Members of the band also appear in minor acting roles in the film. First-time director James William Guercio wanted Conrad L. Hall to photograph this film, but Hall's salary was more than was budgeted for a cinematographer. Guercio reduced his own salary to $1.00 so he could secure Hall as the cinematographer. the majority of the movie was filmed without government permits because the Arizona State Police did not want to co-operate with the production.
SUMMARY
He's a 5'4" Cop on a Big Bike in a 6'2" World
John Wintergreen is a motorcycle cop who patrols the rural Arizona highways with his partner Zipper. Wintergreen is an experienced patrolman looking to be transferred to the Homicide unit. When he is informed by Crazy Willie of an apparent suicide-by-shotgun, Wintergreen believes the case is actually a murder as the victim has shot himself in the chest rather than the head, which is more usual. Detective Harve Poole agrees it is a homicide, after a .22 bullet is found amongst the pellets in the man's chest during the autopsy, as well as hearing about a possible missing $5,000 ($30,500 today) from the man's home, and arranges for Wintergreen to be transferred to homicide to help with the case.
Wintergreen gets his wish, but his joy is short-lived. He begins increasingly to identify with the hippies whom the other officers, including Detective Poole, are endlessly harassing. The final straw comes when Poole discovers that Wintergreen has been sleeping with his girlfriend, Jolene. The hostile workplace politics cause him to be quickly demoted back to traffic enforcement.
Despite being demoted, Wintergreen is able to solve the murder. The killer turns out to be Willie, who confesses while Wintergreen goads him into talking about it. Wintergreen surmises that Willie did it because he was jealous of the old man he killed, who frequently had young people over to his house to buy drugs. Shortly after, it is discovered that Zipper stole the $5,000, which he used to buy a fully dressed Electra Glide motorcycle. Wintergreen is forced to shoot Zipper after he becomes distressed and belligerent, and shoots at Wintergreen and in the direction of two innocent bystanders, hitting one of them.
Wintergreen, now alone and back on his old beat, runs into a hippie that Zipper was needlessly harassing earlier on a previous stop. Recognizing him, Wintergreen lets him off with a warning, but the hippie forgets his driver's license, and Wintergreen drives up behind his van to return it to him. The hippie's passenger points a shotgun out of the back window and shoots Wintergreen, killing him.

One Week is a 2008 Canadian drama film directed by Michael McGowan and starring Joshua Jackson, Liane Balaban, and Campbell Scott. The film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2008, and was released theatrically on March 6, 2009. The scenic backdrop of the Canadian landscape as well as an all-Canadian soundtrack serve as prevalent influences in the film.
Joshua Jackson won Best Actor at the 2010 Genie Awards for his portrayal of Ben Tyler. Liane Balaban was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
SUMMARY
Jackson plays Ben Tyler, who has been diagnosed with cancer. Requiring immediate treatment, he instead decides to take a motorcycle trip from Toronto across Canada to Vancouver Island on his 1973 Norton 850 Commando. Along the way, he meets several people that help him reevaluate his relationship with his fiancée Samantha (played by Balaban), his job, and his dream of becoming a writer.
